DRMTLGY Medical Grade Skincare and a Natural Skincare Formulator’s Perspective on their Ingredients – Part 1

In a world brimming with skincare brands, DRMTLGY has emerged as a noteworthy player, capturing the attention of skincare enthusiasts everywhere. With its promise of effective and science-backed formulas, DRMTLGY has gained significant popularity. This review takes a deep dive into the ingredients from a few of their most popular products and gives you my perspective based on my 12 years of experience formulating natural skincare products.

DRMTLGY needle-less serum

DRMTLGY Needle-less Serum

DRMTLGY claims this as their top seller. This twice-a-day serum targets the appearance of fine lines around the mouth, eyes, and forehead while also hydrating the skin to give a radiant glow. This is a watery gel packed with ceramides, peptides, and hyaluronic acid. Its main active ingredients are Sodium Hyaluronate, everything that has peptide and ceremide in its label, panthenol, and a complex that stimulates the synthesis of collagen and elastin and reduce wrinkles. Panthenol and Sodium hyaluronic acid are the main ingredients in a "Hydrating B5 Gel". If your skin loves hydrating B5,  then you would most likely enjoy this product. I don't love the disodium EDTA, which is an ingredient used to sequester and decrease the activity of metal ions. However, it is a necessary ingredient for any product that is made with tap water instead of distilled is going to require this ingredient to keep the metal in the water from reacting with other ingredients. There are also thickeners and preservatives to round out a product that contains 80-90% water.

Let's take a deep dive in to find the ACTIVE INGREDIENTS.

Antioxidant: Pisum Sativum (Pea) Extract, Bambusa Vulgaris Leaf/Stem Extract

Cell-communicating ingredients: Methylglucoside Phosphate, Copper Lysinate/Prolinate, Niacinamide, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5

Skin brightening: Ceramide EOP, Ceramide NP, Ceramide AP

Skin identical ingredients: Glycerin, Sodium Chondroitin Sulfate, Sodium Hyaluronate

Sodium Hyaluronate

Commonly known as Hyaluronic Acid, it is one of the skin care industry's favorite "anti-aging" ingredients. When you see this ingredient in the formulation, expect a watery gel or a light cream that plumps and creates a dewy glow. This is because Sodium Hyaluronate is a humectant, and as such, not only does it prevent the loss of moisture, it attracts water from the environment and keeps it on your skin. HA is one of the best and super ingredients when it comes to its ability to attract and binding water. If you have dry skin, trying a product with this ingredient is a must. High concentrations of hyaluronic acid are better than low, but I am not able to determine the percentage used in this formulation. Based on the location of the ingredients, my guess would be between 5-10%.

Sodium Chondroitin Sulfate

Similar to Sodium Hyaluronate, it is a substance that has good water-binding ability. It is not as good as HA due to its molecular size, but it works well with HA.

Palmitoyl Tripeptides

A peptide that is backed by research for minimizing the appearance of wrinkles. This is a safe ingredient that has low concerns for cancer, developmental and reproductive toxicity.

Ceramides

They are waxy lipids that can be found naturally in the outer layer of the skin (called stratum corneum - SC). The goopy stuff between our skin cells is called the extracellular matrix, which consists mainly of lipids. And ceramides are about 50% of those lipids (the other important ones are cholesterol at 25% and fatty acids at 15%).

Methylglucoside Phosphate, Copper Lysinate/Prolinate

These are known as the skincare ingredient Neodermyl. It shows promising results in reducing deep wrinkles and improves skin firmness.

One key ingredient in DRMTLGY's products is Vitamin E. Users appreciate the inclusion of this powerful antioxidant, which provides protection against skin damage caused by free radicals. Vitamin E-infused products, such as the Anti-Aging Serum and Needle-Less Serum, receive high praise for their ability to combat fine lines, improve skin texture, and promote a healthy, radiant glow.

Simple Rules and SPF-First Approach: DRMTLGY's commitment to simplicity and sun protection is reflected in its "SPF-first" approach. The brand emphasizes the importance of sun protection as a vital step in any skincare routine. This approach aligns with the recommendations of dermatologists, as harmful UV rays contribute to premature aging, dark spots, and skin damage.

DRMTLGY offers a range of best-in-class sunscreens, including mineral-based options with zinc oxide as the active ingredient. Users appreciate the absence of white cast often associated with mineral sunscreens, providing a seamless application experience. The brand's dedication to sun protection extends to blue light, with some products specifically formulated to shield the skin from the potential damage caused by electronic devices.

Its diverse product range caters to various skin types and tones, ensuring that individuals can find suitable options for their specific needs. The brand's science-backed formulations, emphasis on sun protection, and incorporation of active ingredients like Vitamin E have garnered positive reviews from users.
